The school is very fortunate in both the range and quality of its facilities and resources. We are constantly looking to develop and improve on these to the benefit of our youngsters.

The soft-play room is an area for the pupils to spend time in a safe, controlled environment. It gives them an opportunity to enjoy recreational activities safely as well as to develop their physical and play skills.
The Garden Café
The MILE room is a really fantastic facility to have available for pupils. the room provides a whole curriculum resource for all our youngsters. Children can work on cause and effect development through to creative writing.
We can control the MILE room using a number of different switches. These vary from pressing a coloured button on a switch box, pressing a large soft wall pad, using your voice through a microphone and turning the Cube. Above is a video of the cube being used, as you can see we’ve set it up for a basic command where turning the cube to a specific colour changes the room colour, bubble tubes and shape projector to the colour that the cube lands on.
Above is a short video showing the projector in the room displaying an interactive 3D view of planet Earth. We can use this to display interactive stories, PC software, DVDs and the Nintendo Wii.
Sports, Assembly and more!
Above is a short video showing our main hall setup for a PE lesson for a junior school class, we have a large variety of sports equipment stored in the hall which is used on a regular basis.
The school is lucky to have a hydro-therapy pool with sensory equipment installed around the outside. The pool is used constantly by all students in the school and is a fantastic resource for us to have available.
The lights, projectors, bubble machine, smoke machine and light wand can all be controlled remotely using a range of different waterproof floating switches.
The Communication room provides a safe and secure environment in which pupils/students can work in 1:1 and small groups. Using interactive technologies the children can develop concepts relating to the purpose of communication and practise strategies to encourage vocal development. The Communication Room is a whole school resource, providing all the technological provision of the MILE Room, but is a smaller and potentially less intimidating environment. Much of the equipment is different to the MILE Room, and where the same has been adapted, e.g. Bubble Tubes have been replaced with a specially commissioned and designed Bubble Wall.
Senior school project
The Ridgeway Vegetable Garden
Last year with the help of S5 class teacher Rob Power and Martin Billet (parent) the school started a vegetable garden at the back of the school. As you can see from the pictures below it’s looking fantastic and it’s an excellent project for our students to be involved in.
