Some senior school students attended 'Alton Live' at Eggar's School last Friday alongside their mainstream Eggars peers. As part of the event, our students were very lucky to meet Tom Yendell, a mouth and foot painting artist. He spent time with the children and talked to them about his life, his disability and his work. They enjoyed a variety of art workshops, including drawing and clay printing. The children produced some fantastic work and all enjoyed the experience of drawing using their own mouths and feet. They really benefitted from this inclusive experience.
Farnham Special School to form Multi Academy Trust with Local Mainstream Partners.
A formal consultation, running from 14th June to 8th July, has started with all stakeholders around proposals for The Ridgeway Community School to firstly convert to Academy status and subsequently form a Multi Academy Trust, in Partnership with Weydon Secondary School on 1st September 2016 with plans to likewise join with Farnham Heath End and Woolmer Hills Secondary Schools.
The Ridgeway is a Special School for children between the ages of 2 and 19 years with severe and profound multiple learning difficulties. Many children have additional complex needs and diagnoses such as ASC, Autistic Spectrum Condition. The Ridgeway and Weydon Schools both enjoy Teaching School, National Support School and Leading Edge School statuses, and have benefitted from a shared history of close collaboration. The Ridgeway is committed to supporting and furthering the achievement, support and understanding of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability, (SEND). Headteacher, Darryl Morgan, stated that this is a great opportunity for the school to extend its collaborative work with other partners, consolidating and building on existing outreach and shared best practise. The Ridgeway has a strong offer of training in understanding, and strategies to support students with SEND across the mainstream sector. This is combined with a proven track record of leading research into raising achievement and outcomes for children in both the special and mainstream sectors.
Through this proposal, the Ridgeway is looking forward to even closer partnership, and the benefits of learning with and from the expertise inherent in all the member schools. Collaboration between schools improves outcomes for children, challenging and raising expectations to the long term benefit of the community. This reflects the ethos and purpose of the participating schools and the proposed Multi Academy Trust.

The Beyond Words Books Story App
Beyond Words has gone mobile and created a new app.
The BW (Beyond Words) Story App holds over 400 short picture stories and 1800+ pictures. The app has been designed to work on a tablet or smartphone, and is powered by both iOS and Android.
The new BW Story App covers a diverse range of subjects from medical treatment to bereavement, making friends to growing up and falling in love to getting arrested. Stories taken from our books have been organised into nine clear categories, allowing you to access what you need in a quick and easy manner.
The app is updated by our team regularly, so with three new books due this year you can expect over 100 new images to be added in the coming months.
The app is available to download for free with limited content form the App Store and Google Play, and for just £29.99 per year you can unlock the full version with access to our entire library of pictures.

Lower School take part in Farnham’s Hanging Basket competition.
Its Hanging Basket time again! - on Wednesday 11th May, some of our green-fingered gardeners from lower school went down to the Farnham Town Council greenhouses to take part in the annual schools Hanging Basket competition, which is a part of the community activity programme for Farnham In Bloom. The baskets will be delivered to school shortly for us to look after and judged in July.
It’s the fifth year we have taken part in the event along with seventeen other local schools.
